Regular Meeting -- July 18, 2021
The Board of Directors held its regular bi-monthly meeting at 2007 Bert Avenue, Austin, TX 78704 starting at 2:30pm. The following directors (constituting a quorum of the full board) were present at the meeting: President Kathy Lee (via Zoom), Secretary John McGarey (via Zoom), Kim Pillsbury, Lia Nelson. The following directors were absent: Treasurer Penny Chambers. Robert McGarey (Executive Director) was also present at the meeting.
The Mission Statement was read aloud at the beginning of the meeting. Minutes from the March meeting were read, and with clarification that John is not intending to paint the house the board approved those minutes. A quorum was not available in May so no official board meeting was held.
Finances. We have $13,000 after paying the plumbers for their work so far. There is $7,400 in the bingo account. They are estimating $6,000 for the one bathroom, but we're not sure if that includes restoring the bathroom cabinets. Bob estimates $4,000 for the second sewer plumbing job but that's optional and can wait. Bingo is doing well so we might get more in the future. $2,900 came in from fundraising from snowpocalypse. Bob presented the income statement for the year so far. The board decided to get the main bathroom done and see where we are at that point.
Donations. In order to thank those who donated to the Human Potential Center during Snowpocalypse, the board decided to have Bob personally call everyone who donated to thank them (not to ask them for anything else). We decided that would mean the most for most of the donors.
Health. Bob reported that he seems to have had some issues with his heart and has not been at full capacity, and the board cares and hopes he heals soon.
Bookkeeping. Kim and Bob are planning to work together on the bookkeeping.
Computers. Gary Guilbeaux donated a used computer to the Center so we didn't have to buy a new one.
Celebrate! The staff meeting has been working on the celebrate party event in October, where we will celebrate the Center's 35 years and Bob's 70 years.
Sponsoring Trees. Katherine Ehlert and her friend Elizabeth Gray are trying to arrange a grant for planting trees along the Johnson Creek Hike and Bike Trail. They would like the Center to be the sponsor for the grant. There would be ongoing work to plant and maintain and nurture the new trees. Elizabeth believes in the project and believes that she can manage it (doing the accounting and submitting reports). Board decided to give a tentative yes to being sponsor and ask Elizabeth and Kathryn to talk to the board at the next meeting. Board is in favor of having more trees.
Since there was no further business, the meeting adjourned at around 4:20 pm.
