Regular Meeting -- July 24, 2011
The Board of Directors held its regular monthly meeting at 2007 Bert Avenue, Austin, TX 78704, starting at 3:22 pm. The following directors (constituting a quorum of the full board) were present at the meeting: President and Treasurer Kathy Lee, Vice President Tamara Vogt, Secretary Pam Chambers,.The following director was absent: Penny Chambers. Robert McGarey (Executive Director) was also present at the meeting.
The Mission Statement was read aloud at the beginning of the meeting. Minutes from the previous meeting were read aloud and approved.
Finances. The renters are really great. No problems there. Plus two people are signed up for the art barn and the garden. Oceanna is renting the back room for her practice and all is calm at this time. This all provides $1,580. We only need $800 more a month to cover the mortgage.
Calendar Events. Posting our calendar events on the meetup group and all of the other web sites we are presently on are working well at the moment.
Online Classes. Bob just came back from the AHP board meeting, where their board members learned more about their new web site that is being created. The Center may be able to use their social networking programming that has been set up. The folks from University of Massachusetts, who are helping Bob create the online classes for AHP, are thinking that it would be useful to start an on line class on Oct 12, maybe an Assertiveness class. The charge is usually higher for these interactive classes than for it-person classes. We could arrange for presenters to do online classes, such as Joseph Chilton Pierce, Dr. Gladys McGarey etc.
IRS Reports. 990s are coming up. There are a few people who can possibly help with the project.
Fundraising. Compass for Causes is now active. If we have people who have a debit card, they can link their card to the Center and we would get 1/2 of a % whenever they use their card. We also signed Tamara up for the Randalls card thing. She will get her acct # when she gets it from the Randalls people.
Bingo. We will get $1,500 in a week, but it will go to pay off a $1,500 loan that we had to borrow to pay off cutoff notices. Then of course, we'll be getting more from renters at the start of August.
Goodwheelchairs has been doing nothing since Bob has been gone, first to his family reunion in Flagstaff and then to the AHP board meeting.. Since there is no one to take care of it, Bob didn't post on chairs on Craigslist. If we had new batteries, it would be easier to install them than to remove them from another chair and reinstall into the one the people are interested in. Thinking about giving Penny the task of talking to the battery people about donating batteries to GWC.
Since there was no further business, the meeting adjourned at around 5 pm.
