Workshops for
December, 2010

Your Ideal Relationship   (12/3 from 7 - 9 pm)
Most of us spend years searching for satisfying relationships, and the results are often less than we might hope for. We may have overlooked the all-important first step: becoming clear about what we really want. This workshop provides valuable tools for identifying traits we desire in a partner, and suggestions on how to build fulfilling relationships using these newfound insights. Free. (Return to calendar)

Video Explorations   (12/4 from 6 - 10:30 pm)
["The Karate Kid" with Jackie Chan [PG].] Most Saturday nights, you'll find us watching a popular movie here at the Center in a fun, informal atmosphere. Then we have a discussion. We don't discuss the movie, though; we discuss personal growth issues and themes that came up in the movie. So we're not doing a "Siskel and Ebert" type of review, but rather an in-depth personal growth process that helps us get to know ourselves and each other better. During the discussion we learn and practice essential communication skills like I-Statements and Open-Ended Questions, so that we can apply them more effectively in the rest of our lives. Each month there's a different general topic for the videos, ranging from Relationships to Overcoming Obstacles to Remarkable People. Come join us! Ages 18 and up. Free. (Return to calendar)

Practice Your Personal Growth Potluck   (12/5 from 1 - 3 pm)
[Anything garnished in red and green.] After attending all those workshops on communication and personal growth, where do you go to practice the skills you've learned? How about a potluck? Believe me, talking about the best way to barbecue the chicken (or set the table or arrange the centerpiece) is a very different experience here at the Center--where people try to communicate with assertiveness and love--than it is in the not-so-functional families many of us grew up in. The informal atmosphere helps us get to know each other in a candid way and practice our new communication skills on people who are more likely to encourage than to criticize. Free, but don't forget to bring something yummy to share! Please RSVP. (MEMBERS ONLY.) (Return to calendar)

Christmas Crafts   (12/6 from 7 - 9 pm)
What better time to use your creativity than when you're preparing for Christmas? Bring those projects you've been wanting to finish and we'll work on them together. Then you can give those you love presents handcrafted specifically for them, and save money at the same time! Ages 12 and up. Free for members. Please RSVP. (MEMBERS ONLY.) (Return to calendar)

Tour of Meditation Practices   (12/7 from 6:15 - 7 pm)
Hundreds of approaches to relaxation/centering/meditation have been developed over the centuries, and each has its own charm, benefits and wisdom. We explore one new approach each meeting. This lets you work some relaxation into your life while building a repertoire of stress-management techniques for improving your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. Ages 12 and up. Free. (Return to calendar)

Baking Cookies @ The Center   (12/8 from 6 - 9 pm)
This is gonna be a blast! You can mix, bake, decorate (and eat!) holiday cookies, and have some left over to take along to Thanksgiving or give to your friends as Christmas presents. Bring 1 lb. unsalted butter and your favorite extras, like walnuts, chips, etc. Yum yum!!! Free. Please RSVP. (MEMBERS ONLY.) (Return to calendar)

Birthday Bash   (12/10 from 7 - 10 pm)
[Potluck Party for Pam, Sonny, Kathy and Tera.] We celebrate members' birthdays with a delectable potluck followed by birthday cake and games that are perfect triggers for unbridled group creativity! If you enjoy sparkling wit, an easygoing atmosphere and delightful food, don't miss this one! Free for members. Please RSVP. (MEMBERS ONLY.) (Return to calendar)

["Nothing Like the Holidays" with Alfred Molina [PG-13].] Most Saturday nights, you'll find us watching a popular movie here at the Center in a fun, informal atmosphere. Then we have a discussion. We don't discuss the movie, though; we discuss personal growth issues and themes that came up in the movie.
