My Best Friend

with Dany Boon

We talked about friendships tonight, including ones that nurture us and those that haven't. We noted how most relationshps start out being nurturing (otherwise, why would we begin it in the first place?), and over time can become either more nurturing or become damaging.

We also dealt with some of the losses we've experienced in life, both romantic losses and the loss of friends and relatives, either through death or simply through the passage of time. We noted how difficult it is to get over those losses for many of us, but how the healing process can occur sometimes when we least expect it and surprise us, seemingly out of nowhere.

Feel free to come and share your own personal insights sometime; the Saturday Night Video and Discussions here in Austin, Texas are a lot of fun and fascinating. (They're free, too.) Here are the questions the group came up with, based on the personal growth themes in the movie:

MY BEST FRIEND

  1. How have I gotten over the loss of my ideals and/or dreams?
  2. How can brutal honesty, in my dealings with friends and relatives, be good?
  3. What have been the big disappointments in my life, and how have I dealt with them?
  4. How can I deal humanely and firmly with people I perceive as being greedy and self-absorbed?
  5. What friends/romances could I have had if I hadn't overlooked them?
  6. Which of my romances have been the most nurturing/damaging?
  7. Why don't I go with my heart, if time is of the essence?
  8. What are my limits when it comes to dealing with friends?
  9. What do I look for in a friend?
