Frequently Asked Questions About Membership

1. Why should I become a member?

When you become a member of the Center, you get a chance to grow in a way that is hard to find anywhere else. Being a member means taking an active part in creating emotionally-healthy community. It means challenging yourself to really "walk your talk" and live what you believe with the support of others who are committed to the same thing.
If you are committed to practicing creativity, love, playfulness, good communication, assertiveness, self-exploration, self-awareness and being "present" with others, the Center is the place for you. You'll want to be a member if:

  • You're tired of somber-faced, solemn personal-growth groups, and just as tired of superficial bars and cocktail parties
  • You're no longer satisfied with letting other people decide who and what you should be
  • You long to connect with other like-minded folks who want to be real, open, honest and playful.

Sure, you get a number of discounts and other benefits by being a member, but finances aren't what membership is all about. Membership is about building emotionally-healthy community; it is a chance to invent your own family of choice  which can be a very different thing from your family of origin. It offers you a chance to grow at your own pace and connect with like-minded individuals who are committed to creativity, assertiveness, open-hearted communication, self-esteem, playfulness and personal growth.

2. How much does membership cost?

You can become a member of the Center for $20 a month, or less if you join with a friend. For more information, visit the links at the bottom of this page.

3. Do I need to be a member in order to attend events at the Center?

No. Most events are free and open to the public, and you don't need to be a member in order to participate. You can attend as many events as you like (except for Members-Only events), and you won't be pushed or prodded to join.

4. What are some examples of members-only events?

We have a number of members-only events every month, giving members a chance to connect with and get to know other members in depth. Check out the calendar for this month's events. In addition to the monthly events, we have activities that repeat every year such as our camp out, which is held twice a year, and our Thanksgiving Dinner and Christmas Dinner.

5. My finances are tight. Can I make special payment arrangements?

If you're interested in membership and finances are an issue, call us. Chances are really good that we can work something out. Our goal is to help people grow, and we don't want to let something like money stand in the way.

Volunteering

(NOTE: Current volunteers can log their volunteer hours HERE.)

We want volunteering at the Center to be fun! We'll do what we can to make sure that you learn, grow and succeed at the same time you're helping the Center grow and succeed. After all, that kind of win-win proposition is what we're all about! (By the way, another way you can help the Center grow is by making a DONATION.)

We have a Volunteer Coordinator who will call you from time to time to see how you're doing and find out whether there's any help you need from us to make your job easier. If there's anything you need or you have some complaints/compliments/ideas, you can get in touch with us by calling (512) 441-8988 or EMAILING US.

Volunteer Opportunities

Here are some of the volunteer opportunities that are available. However, if you have something you love to do and you can imagine some way that we could use your skills, enthusiasm and imagination here, please let us know! We'll see what we can work out.
