Most of our time was spent on exploring our gender roles and whether and to what extent we have abided by them, and in what ways we have broken free from the stereotypes. Not surprisingly, each participant has a different life experience and different training in what their roles should be, and thus felt different about where they are now in the process of handling pressure to abide by the stereotypes.

Feel free to come and share your own personal insights sometime; the Saturday Night Video and Discussions here in Austin, Texas are a lot of fun and fascinating. (They're free, too.) Here are the questions the group came up with, based on the personal growth themes in the movie:

SIX DAYS AND SEVEN NIGHTS

  1. What unexpected things have I done under stress?
  2. What am I / am I not ready to forgive myself for?
  3. What can I learn from other cultures around grief?
  4. Haw much do I live up to the stereotype of my gender ("A Real Man" / "A Real Woman"), and how do I feel about that?
  5. What deepens a relationship for me beyond "attraction"?
  6. What external fixes / structures do I rely on? How has that worked in my life?
  7. What perspective am i bringing to my situation?
